about

This was written in response to a poem that their daughter wrote at age 16. She was traveling alone to London on a train for a week, and wrote her observations down about her experience and fellow travelers. There are threads of fear and self doubt interlaced with an overriding courage and determination. An internal dialogue runs alongside parental advice and a longing for the comfort of childhood innocence. Percussion creates atmosphere by hinting at the sound of a train passing over tracks.

lyrics

Riding the flood to the big world
Millions of people, with millions of care
Fighting for hope, in the big world

Be brave – don’t hold up the gate
And if the tide makes you late
Well don’t hang around
Be brave – just push through the blur
Don’t forget who you were
And soon you’ll be found

I left all that I know, over the rainbow
I swim too slowly, little fish – don’t cry

Counting the cost in a sad world
I look at these people, as we sit alone
Carried away from the big world

Tide will bring me home
Shaken all I’ve known
Tried to hold my own....
